Thursday, November 18th

Honestly, I'm still reeling from Tuesday.  My observation teacher will begin his unit on grammar today with our 10th graders.  We'll have a discussion on concrete versus abstract nouns, take an online quiz, and then work on a a worksheet for homework.  I'll help by answering student questions and monitoring students as they have the laptops out.  (They tend to log onto sites they should not be looking at during class time.)

My observation teacher will teach a really effective lesson on Shakespeare.  He'll divide the kids up into 5 teams and they'll work on piecing together sonnets based upon theme.  The kids get into groups so methodically for him.  I see that I need more organization when dividing groups.  He also uses a color coded cup system to let him know when kids need help, when they're done, or when they are working with the colors green, red, and yellow.  One group will ask for my help.  This is a tough lesson for me as well.  I have never grasped or taken much of an interest in Shakespeare.  I try to answer their questions instead of giving them guidance to figure things out on their own.
